(Really late) March Favourites 2015

Hey! I actually cannot believe how late this post is! haha! Soon I'll be doing an April favourites soon! But oh well I'll just go with it!

So here's my first ever favourites post! I hope it lives up to expectations (even if that is just mine!). Just to note these are in no particular order and are all my own choosing.

  1. Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo - £6.95 115g
This dry shampoo is amazing! I was so happy when I found it in lush, as I had ran out of the normal spray type dry shampoo and really needed some more. This stuff is like talc, except it smells like grapefruit, so fresh! Plus it looks better in my hair than talc, as well as being better for my hair! This is a bit more expensive than the usual dry shampoo products but its definitely worth it as its all natural and it lasts ages! That's one of my favourite things about the bottle design as it stops me from using more than I need, as I sometimes go a bit crazy with the sprays. Just one thing I'd recommend is using it in the bathroom, even the bath or shower because it can get a bit messy! Have a look on the site (linked to the product name) they give a great tutorial on how to apply!

This is my go to palette at the moment, the entirety of march I ended up using this! When I'm             wanting a everyday look I usually use the gold/pink and the lilac (the two most used) and for
more night-time evening look I still use the pink/gold but with the darker purples smudging                 them to create a smoky eye look. This palette is such good quality especially for the price it                 is! I actually used it not long ago to re-create the eye make-up look done by the make-up artist             at Assisi's Salon. (You can find the original look and my review of the experience here).

       3. The Sim City Build it App - Free on the Apple App Store.
I am addicted to this app, my March evenings in bed were spent fervently building up my city             (called Narnia) into a thriving metropolis! I actually prefer this to the sim city PC game, one               of the best things about it is the fact you can use it offline and it will just upload the saved                   data when the internet is back. Plus it's not one of those apps where you have to use actual                   money to progress quickly, its one of my favourite apps ever!

         4. Umberto Giannini Sleek and Chic Blow Dry Cream - Unsure of Price.
I couldn't find this anywhere apart from amazon and even then it was unavailable so I                          honestly don't know what the price of this is, especially seen as this was part of a Christmas n              gift box years ago and I found it last month and started using it again. I am sure glad I did!                  This product smells amazing and it keeps my hair so sleek after blow drying, not a bit of frizz              in sight! If you can find this snap it up!

           5. Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub - £5.50 25g
This lip scrub is a God-sent! I cant get enough of it (as the packaging would suggest!) I used                this a lot through March due to the colder weather and it became one of my handbag staples.                The best thing about this is that its all natural (edible!) ingredients so you can lick it straight                off your lips once your finished, it tastes and smells so much like popcorn! And like all                        Lush products it seems to last forever!

           6. Radley London Umbrella - Sale £11.00
I got this particular umbrella from their discounted store in Cheshire Oaks so I think it's one                of their older designs as I couldn't find it on the site. You can read about my experience in                    Chester/Liverpool and Cheshire oaks in my Liverpool and Chester Post.  The March                            weather was a bit drizzly so I purchased this right at the right moment really! I love it's                        design and the size is perfect for nearly all of my handbags.

           7.  Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate, Argan & Grapeseed - £5.00 25g
I got a few different crabtree & evelyn hand creams for Christmas and my birthday from                      Owen's mum and dad and I have to say this is one of my favourites, especially through                        March when my hands needed it most! It smells great I end up looking like a weirdo                            smelling my hands! Also this is such a good size that it fits in my purse so if I don't need to                  carry a hand bag I can pop it straight in my purse and I'm set!

         8. Soap and Glory Beauty Sleep Accelerator -  £13.00 45g
*Bruce Almighty Impression* "Love Love Love Love Love!" I actually look forward to the                  point before sleep when I get to put this on. I plan on doing a review of this pretty soon so I                wont say too much about it now but all I will say is Peaches! It smells like PEACHES (Best                smell ever!) I definitely saved the best 'til last!

Sorry it was a bit late, okay a lot late! I've been looking forward to doing this post for a while and I loved writing it and can't wait to do Aprils! Comment below if you love these products as much as I did!

Review: Assisi Salon

Well it's been a while! I made a promise to myself before i started this blog not to put blogging before uni work (quite sensible I know!) which means I haven't been able to blog for a little while so i apologise for that but my degree comes first ( I have spent 3 years killing myself to finish it!) however there isn't much longer left! The end is in sight! I just thought I should explain my absence before continuing with this review. Anyway Onwards and upwards!

This week has been a very exciting week indeed! First of all Owen finally was able to hand in his dissertation after months of hard work not only that but on his birthday so once that was handed in the birthday excitement could commence! My big excitement of the week came in the form of the Assisi Salon in Cleethorpes. I had been kindly asked by the salon to come in and sample their salon experience, which consisted of my hair being coloured, washed, blow dried, cut and styled as well as a HD make-over experience! All of which was very kindly gifted and in return I would review my experience of the salon, which I must immediately say was excellent!

I always find first impressions of a salon are very important so I was very pleased when i first entered the salon it was a flood of the senses, everything looked so pristine, colourful and sparkly as well as smelling fantastic! I even blurted out as I walked in how great the place smelt! Definitely a cheerful environment, which immediately made me relax (I was feeling a bit nervous as I hadn't done anything like this before!), It also helped that I was greeted by friendly faces! This definitely felt like a salon I could just walk into without ever being here before to see about having a treatment done, whereas I find some salons especially ones up to this standard are a bit 'stuck up' and make a 'walk-ins' feel uncomfortable, that was definitely not the case with Assisi.

I was seen to immediately by the staff who got me settled and got the whole experience off to a great start by offering me a cup of tea! However I was a bit of a bad guest because I forgot to drink the first one whilst my foils were being put in, although the staff were more than happy to get me another, accentuating the fact they were very attentive and happy to help at all times.

Now anyone who knows me will know that I'm not a massive talker especially to people I've just met, so I tend to be a bit awkward for stylists to chat to. Although i felt quite at home chatting away to my senior stylist Ben, telling each other about our upcoming trips and just generally chatting about everything and anything, a very traditional part of the salon experience that i actually seemed to take part in for once!

The foils didn't actually take as long as i thought they would to apply seen as i had the full head foils. which was an obvious bonus because nobody wants a numb bum! I have to say though i was amazed at the amount of precision and care that went into applying the colour. I've found before that some stylists can be a bit messy and careless with hair and pull it about here there and everywhere, however this whole experience was very relaxing and i didn't get any of the colour on my scalp, clothes or skin! This i have to say pleased me a lot as i tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and its always feels comforting to know that the person in charge of something as important as colouring my hair also takes pride in achieving perfection!

I'll not bore you with going over the period of time where i was letting the colour take as I spent most of that time chatting and perusing pinterest for my new hair style! However I will mention one thing I noticed in particular which was the way other customers were treated, which was with the same care and attention as I was, whether they were new or well known customers was just a technicality.

I was very excited about having my hair washed! I know that might sound sad but i don't care! there's something so lovely about someone else washing your hair for you. At Assisi's it was like having a mini spa experience, the water was the perfect experience and Ben chose to use the best smelling shampoo in the salon, which then started a discussion on which our favourite shampoo brands were for smell throughout the whole salon. The shampoo used was one of the colour specific ones which i was recommended to use if i wanted my colour to last a few weeks longer, something i may have to invest in as would like my lovely colour to last as long as possible! (with normal shampoo i was told it should last 8-12 weeks which is plenty long enough!) The amazing smelling shampoo was massaged thoroughly into my hair and scalp adding to the spa like experience, also I swear my hair just feels noticeably cleaner and bouncer than i can ever get it! I honestly felt like i could just fall asleep or get a good book out and just lie there and read away as if I were having a nice long soak in the bath!

I have to say i think my favourite part of my experience had to be getting my hair blow dried, cut and styled, as its where you see all of the hard work put in by the stylist come to life and take shape and you get that lovely extra weight coming off feeling when they start to tidy up your hair. I showed Ben the picture of how i wanted my hair (a similar length to now with a few more layers to make it a bit more choppy and interesting), he was all too happy to do it the way i wanted and even made some suggestions that improved the look to suit my own style, e.g. allowing me to put my hair up if I wanted to. He also improved the look of my fringe massively as it was really getting on my nerves because it seemed to have become too long and basically non existent. Now its just right and perfect for when i put my hair back into a pony tail, which i tend to do quite a lot. Ben also kept talking me through the techniques he was using to get the desired result which i found very useful as i find my hair can be a bit difficult for someone inexperienced like me to blow dry sometimes and knowing how to get the desired result was going to come in very handy for recreating the salon look. I was also asked how i wished my hair to be styled, straight wavy curly etc... which I haven't experienced before, I've only ever been offered a straight style after finishing my hair which just showed how much more Assisi's were willing to do. I told Ben he could go crazy and do whatever he wanted, he chose curls (which i would have opted for myself as I love my hair curled). He curled them with the straighteners which had the perfect effect and seemed to make it easier to correctly style my fringe, i paid a lot of attention to him styling my fringe as I always find that the hardest part of curling my hair so I shall attempt to recreate that look at some point!

As you can probably tell from the included pictures my hair looked amazing once they had finished with it. I was extremely pleased with the end product which was reflected in the price of the treatments I received. I would definitely come back to have my hair done again and again. The style suited my face and look very well and was a huge improvement on the style I had before. I don't think I've ever been so pleased with how my hair looked after having it done at a salon, as normally i find there is something that didn't quite work out as i had imagined or perhaps the stylist took a bit too much hair off, nothing like that occurred and the end result was even better than I had imagined. This was not the end of my experience however! i was then taken upstairs to the lovely little glitter beauty bar, where i was having a HD makeover, something i hadn't experienced before so i was rather excited.

My beauty technician was lovely and started by asking me what sort of occasion i was having the make up done for, whether or not i was going out that night etc... That way she was able to tailor a look centred around my specific style needs. It just so happened that it was owen's birthday the next day so we were hoping to go out the night before so I asked for a night out look, which i later found out mostly involved the pallets named vamp. I was talked through all of the techniques she was using, as well as giving me tips to ensure i could get a lovely look each time i applied my make up, even if i was rushing (which I normally am!). She actually mixed two of the foundations available to match my skin colour which is very fair, so don't worry if there doesn't seem to be one there which matches your skin tone as the beauty technicians are able to create one from the ones available. I was also convinced to try a bronzer on my cheek bones, i don't normally use a bronzer myself because I worry about making it look too dark however i have been converted as she showed me the perfect technique to get a lovely sun kissed look that accentuated my cheek bones. The foundation felt great on my face, not too heavy and there was definitely no caked up feeling you get with some foundations, it really gave my skin an air brushed look by covering up all of my blemishes and uneven skin tones.

The eye pallet used on my lids was the vamp one, which had purple, blue, pink and neutral tones that really complimented my skin and eye colour (which is green). I loved the way she extended the purple shadow to match the flick of the eye-liner, it really seemed to open my eyes up and make them more sultry and well vampy! (if that was a word). Speaking of the eye-liner that was excellent! I hadn't ever used a gel eye-liner before but I feel as though I may have to invest in this one as it stayed put all day and didn't even smudge when my eyes watered a bit from hay fever and even when i rubbed them forgetting i had it on! (that's how light weight the whole make up felt). It sets in something like 20 seconds too which means you don't have to worry about accidentally smudging it while applying any more make up. The mascara was great too, it really made my eyes look bigger and gave such great volume and length to my lashes, something I always like to strive for! It didn't take many coats either to get the desired effect, meaning it would last a long time. I also had my eyebrows done so that they would be more defined and able to frame my face better. The effect was immediate and i could see why people take so much care with there eye brows. Normally I would just pluck mine, however sometimes i don't even do that because they are so light they can hardly be seen anyway. I think though if i were to have them done again i would opt to have them a bit lighter as they did seem a bit too dark for my skin tone, although other than that they looked great!

The whole look was finished off with a lick of gloss over my lips which looked great, I don't normally go for lip gloss because i find its too sticky and my hair gets caught in it, but this was not the case with the HD lip gloss. It was perfectly hydrating but at the same time wasn't noticeably wet or sticky. In fact it had more of a consistency of a balm which i loved. The colour was lovely too, my technician decided an understated colour would work best as i had such bold colours on my eyes. It was just slightly more pigmented than my natural lip colour bringing it out to compliment the rest of my look. Finally the make up was set with a loose powder which helped to combat any shine too and just added to the camera ready look that had been created.

When i looked in the mirror i couldn't believe the transformation that had occurred, the whole look was perfect and i almost had that surreal moment of is that actually me?

My experience of Assisi's salon was amazing, I can't recommend it enough and i would definitely go back for more treatments. I may even try something new as they also do HD brows as well as having a nail bar. I would definitely give my whole experience a 10/10 the atmosphere was welcoming and lovely, the staff were attentive and friendly and the treatments were brilliant, apart from my brows being a tad dark I can find no fault.

Everyday Makeup Style

After coming across lots of make-up style posts whilst reading through my feed on bloglovin I decided that this would be my next blog post, I love that time in the morning when I take time for myself and don't have to stress about anything whilst I'm doing my make-up. So! this is what my everyday make-up style and routine consists of:

Base:
  •  The main base i use at the moment is a Nivea rich moisturising day cream. I tend to suffer from really dry skin so this is perfect for making sure its hydrated and soft, another reason why I use this cream the most is because i have really sensitive skin, especially on my face and this is made especially for people with sensitive skin and I can tell you now it works a treat. I put it on every morning even if I'm not wearing any make-up or even going out and it really helps to brighten my complexion and works as a great base to keep my make-up on most of the day.

  • Quite recently I've also found myself using a loose translucent powder on my face before any other make-up in place of foundation. I've never been a really big fan of foundation anyway and find it very hard to find one that matches my pale skin without making me look like a ghost so if I do feel the need to use anything like that I usually opt for a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser. However most of the time my Rimmel match perfection loose powder is able to give my face that overall coverage that brightens and gets rid of shine without feeling like I have an extra layer on my face and blocking my pores. I'm so pleased i made the switch from using products such as foundation and even the lighter BB creams and tinted moisturisers to the loose powder, I've definitely noticed a huge change in my complexion, it's massively reduced the amount of blemishes I get, my face hardly ever breaks out any more and its just generally brighter and clearer which has definitely boosted my confidence enough to not wear any foundation ect. It was really hard to stop 'covering up' my face to begin with as it made me feel quite exposed, but after sticking with it I feel much better about it, because now instead of using products to 'cover up' my skin I use them to enhance it.

Cheeks:
  • I don't really tend to use traditional blushers, usually to save money and time i just quickly dab up my cheek bones with my Rimmel colour rush lip balm in "on fire" and blend in across the cheek. I really love the way that the balmy texture of the colour rush lip balm blends into my cheeks and creates an effortless dewy look which helps my face look fresher and more awake.

Lips:
  • Funnily enough the lip stick i usually adopt on a daily basis is the Rimmel colour rush lip balm in "on fire" again! coincidence or what!? I love the peachy pink colour of this lip balm, its basically a more vibrant and all round better version of my actual lip colour so it works really well as a natural looking lip. Also as mentioned above the balmy texture is great for creating a fresh dewy look and it also helps to keep lips from getting chapped and sore which is a massive bonus, especially as i find a lot of drug store lipsticks dry lips out more than anything.

Eyes:
  • To get rid of under eye circles i use a combination of the MUA pro base CC palette  and the soap and glory trick and treat dark circle concealer. I've always had a big problem with dark circles under my eyes, even when i get plenty of sleep I still have them, so its likely they are genetic in which case i just have to try and cover them up which is why I was delighted when I found the MUA CC palette. The yellow section is perfect for neutralising dark purple shades under the eyes which is the one I use the most, and it does a really good job of neutralising the purple tones but then my under eyes just look yellowy which is where the soap and glory dark circle concealer comes in. Its great at covering up the dark circles too but doesn't last as long on its own because its quite watery in consistency. The pigmentation is really good at blending with individual skin tones as well, because at first glance it looks too dark for my pale skin tone, but when i blend it in it matches quite well with my skin and thankfully doesn't make it obvious I'm using under eye concealers.

  • For my eye shadow I pretty much always wear purple, as it is known to compliment green eyes and I love the colour purple! again I use a bit of a combination of two different eye shadow products to help the colour last longer and keep it vibrant. As a base colour I use superdrug's own brand cream eye shadow in royal, although after looking for a link to the eye shadow in that particular colour on the superdrug website, it doesn't look like they actually do it any more, I'll have to check in store and get back to you on that one. The creamy texture of this eye shadow is perfect for loading powder eye shadow onto to improve colour as well as wearing, especially as the pigmentation isn't particularly vibrant in the first place. The powder eye shadow I use is the Rimmel glam'eyes quad eyeshadow in smoky purple. I love a good smoky eye, even for an every day look so this is my go to eye shadow palette. The range of shades are lovely and work really well for an effective smoky eye. In the image of the palette the one with hardly any left is the one I use to sweep across the entire lid, i then use the shade across from it to highlight the inner corner and outer corner, the really dark shade I don't use very often as its not really an every day shade but if I did I would use it in the outer corner and in the crease.

  • I use three different eye liners on my eyes, all different colours and useful for different things! The first eye liner i use is a Rimmel scandal eyes kohl in nude which I use to make my eye look bigger and me more awake by applying it to the bottom waterline. I then use a regular Rimmel brown kohl pencil to again make my eyes appear bigger by applying it under my waterline on my lower lash line and blend it slightly for a smoky effect, i use the brown shade as it isn't so harsh looking for every day wear and really dark liner highlights dark circles. The final eye liner I use is the scandal eyes eye liner pen in black, which I apply to the lash line and just above the lash line on my eye lid, this is really good for precision and creating a cat eye look.

  • And finally the mascara i use is a fairly new one, I only bought it a few weeks ago after seeing some good reviews on it, also I really wanted to try out a mascara with argan oil in. Shockingly its another Rimmel product (cant seem to get enough of them!) and i have to say it does work really well. I usually give my upper lashes a quick coat of this and then use the end of the brush to focus on the outer corner of my lashes to open my eyes up a bit. I also give my lower lashes a quick coat of this but only the ones closest to my outer corner otherwise I might risk highlighting my under eye dark circles and who wants that?

What make up do you use on a daily basis? any of the same ones? which is your favourite drug store brand? comment below :)

Perfect Purple Pout

I remember as a kid i was and still am obsessed with the colour purple, particularly a lovely rich dark shade of purple. Thankfully i was a 90's kid and happened to grow up in a time when people wore dark purple lipstick. So imagine my excitement when i realised 90's trends, make-up and otherwise are making a raging come back for 2015, Hooray!! :)

So... I've been scouring all of the best UK drug stores to find the perfect purple shade, unfortunately being a student I can't spend loads of money trying out different expensive lipstick shades, but to be fair a lot of the drug store options could be dupes of the more expensive brands such as MAC. Although if i could afford to I would love to buy as many MAC lipsticks as I could!
Perrie for collection - Rimmel colour rush balm in Keep Mauving - Collection Gothic Glam in Scorned

I set out onto social media and called for the help of my fellow lipstick lovers. I was surprised at the amount of responses I got, so I planned to make my way through the list using swatches on the back of my hand to guide me. Finally I thought my prayers were answered and I chose the Perrie lipstick for collection and the collection Gothic Glam lipstick in Scorned. I really love them and Owen (my partner) thinks they both look great on me too but I just don't think they are the perfect purple pout I was looking for, The Perrie one is still a bit too light and I really wanted to make a statement with this lipstick, whereas the Scorned one is a really strong dark purple but it doesn't stay that way very long.

So! I'm still on the look out for my perfect purple pout, I know its out there! and I'll keep you updated on my progress.

I'm making another call out to anyone who can give any more suggestions, please comment below!
